How Flying English took flight.
A boutique school built by people who wanted more for their kids — and ended up building a family of teachers from around the world.
Where it began
Two mothers, one idea.
Flying English is a boutique language school in downtown Shanghai, founded in 2015 by two mothers — a former chemical engineer turned entrepreneur and a business consultant — who weren’t satisfied with the after-school options around them. Together with an education consultant, they set out to raise the bar for young learners.
I had offers from many schools when I arrived in Shanghai, but I’m so glad I chose Flying English. Everyone here truly cares about making a difference.
The route so far
Milestones, from take-off to today.
Opened our doors with 2 classrooms and 12 students.
Moved to our current home in Huangpu District.
Passed 500 enrolments, opened a second campus, and grew to a team of 40.
The pandemic closed borders — and, sadly, our second campus.

More than coworkers
We travel together, too.
In 2024 we took the whole team to Bali for a week of fun and bonding. It’s part of how we keep teachers happy — and keep them around. When you teach here, you don’t just get a job. You get a crew.
